I work with Christian Haven a Children's Home in Northwest Indiana. The first 2 years there, I was the remodeler, doing maintenance
in all the houses and other buildings, and also building a school complex. For the past 22 years, I have served as the Wood shop Supervisor with CH.
During this period, I have had the privilege of working with 100's of teenage boys, trying to make a difference in their lives. Each was sent to us by court systems around the
state. The "average" youth comes from a one-parent home or a foster home. Many come from gang-related cultures; some just couldn't handle school. Just about every one of these young
people has disrespect for those in authority.
Christian Haven exists to guide these youth into a relationship with God. In so doing they can then know that they are important, that they count, and that their lives are
valuable. I'm very pleased to say we (some 140 of us staff) are accomplishing this, better now than even before.
Many of these young people, both boys and girls, have become Christians. We offer these youth this relationship with God so they will have Him to turn to and hold on to throughout their lives. In their past, they have found out that when they put your trust in family, gangs, society, etc. they would be disappointed. Trusting in God, they will never be disappointed and it rids them of their hostility towards life, while giving them purpose for living and hope for their eternal future.
We, also, want to help each youth to function as a productive individual in society. To accomplish this our youth are helped to gain either a GED or a high school diploma.
Many are subjected to vocations of Graphic Arts, Woodworking, Landscaping, Nuitrition, Autoshop and Maintenance.
I'm very thankful that I have a part in this ministry as I wait for Jesus Christ to come back and take all His children to be with Him for all eternity.
I'd be happy to talk to you about Christian Haven and its ministry, too. Just e-mail me at jpshouse7@yahoo.com
